A SEDONA CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

Ranger’s owner was running out of time to find him a new home. Her husband was a veteran with expensive medical bills, and she had to sell her house and move somewhere more affordable. She thought she had found a new home for Ranger twice, but both times the adopters changed their minds at the last minute. With less than 7 days before her house was sold, she had no options left.

When Ranger’s owner contacted Sedona Shepherd, we were touched by her situation. Normally, we meet and evaluate a dog before bringing them into our foster program, but with time running out, we had to act quickly. We talked with Ranger’s owner about his great personality and how, despite her efforts, she couldn’t keep him. We decided to bring Ranger straight into our program.

Three days later, Ranger’s owner brought him to us. It was an emotional moment for everyone: Ranger was anxious and tears were flowing, We promised her that Ranger would be well cared for and that, once he settled in, we would work diligently to find him the right home. We had no idea just how perfect that home would turn out to be.

The next day, Ranger’s former owner texted us to say that Aaron, the person buying her house, wanted to adopt Ranger. Aaron had met Ranger during the sale, spent time with him in the backyard, and said how much fun Ranger was. At the time, Aaron hadn’t mentioned it, but he was hoping to adopt a German Shepherd once he moved in.

During the closing, Ranger wasn’t there, so Aaron asked about him. When he learned Ranger was with Sedona Shepherd, he wanted to help and bring Ranger home right away. Aaron quickly applied to adopt him. He was the perfect match—active, with a local support network, and some of Ranger’s former family nearby. Best of all, Ranger would be back in a familiar place.

A week later, Ranger was back home just in time for Christmas. He is a local TV star, having a feature on Fox29 News segment. In rescue, we never know what stories will unfold, and we are so happy for Ranger and his extended family.
