Sweet Koda Needs Your Help
Koda is a gentle and sweet 9-year-old German Shepherd. She was recently rescued from Philadelphia ACCT. She soon developed a highly anti-biotic resistant form of pneumonia and is struggling to survive.
Upon arriving at her foster home, Koda was quiet but affectionate towards her foster dad. After a few hours in her new home, she was clearly showing signs of an upper respiratory infection. Despite her gentle nature and strong spirit, Koda was clearly in discomfort and not eating. We immediately brought her to our vet for a full round of diagnostic tests. The foster consulted with our vet, and we followed their recommendation to bring Koda to an emergency 24-hour vet. While there, it was confirmed that Koda had pneumonia, which hit her hard. Koda was placed on a round of intravenous antibiotics and oxygen. The emergency vet felt confident that, despite Koda’s lack of appetite, she was getting better and would be best served by returning to a more comfortable setting at her foster home.
For the first day and a half, Koda rallied and began eating spoon-fed baby food and managed to go for short walks outside in her yard. However, a day later, she took a hard turn for the worse, regressing physically and becoming more lethargic. We were distressed, and after consulting with our vet, we rushed Koda to the University of Pennsylvania Vet Hospital. Her chest X-rays showed her pneumonia getting worse and it was apparent that she had a form of pneumonia that was resistant to her current round of antibiotics.
Both the emergency room vet staff and the Sedona team share the belief that Koda is not a lost cause. We are confident that with successful treatment of her pneumonia, Koda will have the chance to recover and flourish. Despite all she is going through, Koda is a fighter and not ready to give up. As of August 1, Koda’s oxygen levels have stabilized and begun to increase, but her temperature is still high and she remains tired. Koda is currently in the ICU and receiving continuous, round-the-clock attention.
Sedona is committed to doing everything possible to give Koda a fighting chance to succeed. The veterinarians at U Penn believe that with ongoing aggressive treatment, Koda has a real opportunity to survive and ultimately thrive. Despite a generous discount provided by our vet and U Penn, the cost of this care is still one that we cannot carry alone. Sedona and Koda need your support to continue to provide her the chance she deserves. All donations will go directly to Koda’s medical care, including oxygen support, specialized antibiotics, and continued medical care provided by the dedicated team of specialists at the University of Pennsylvania.
Koda is more than a medical case. She’s a gentle soul with bright eyes waiting to shine again. She’s fought so hard already. Please help us give her the chance she deserves.

Koda and Sedona Shepherd thank you for your support. To help show our gratitude, for donations of $100 or above Sedona is glad to provide you with a gift and thank you.
